Chargers kicker Nate Kaeding suffered a left knee injury in the season-opening win over the Vikings, and the team fears the injury is severe.

Multiple reporters, including ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora, have said the Chargers believe Kaeding tore his ACL. Kaeding is scheduled for an MRI on Monday at which the Chargers expect their fears to be confirmed.

Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune offered a somewhat more optimistic report suggesting that the Chargers don’t think Kaeding is headed to injured reserve. But even Acee’s report says it would be a “miracle” for Kaeding to be able to return next week.

So the Chargers appear to be in the market for a new kicker. And their already bad special teams may be getting worse.
