CeeDee Lamb calls it “everything” to have a career day in his return to Houston

CeeDee Lamb grew up 24 miles from Reliant Stadium in Richmond, Texas. He had attended a game at the home of the Texans, but he had never played there until Sunday.

The Cowboys receiver went off against his hometown team, catching 17 passes for 189 yards, including the game-winning, 12-yard touchdown with 40 seconds remaining.

Lamb called it “everything” to do what he did in Houston.

“My grandma came out. That was really good to see,” Lamb said, via Todd Archer of ESPN. “She didn’t really come to many of my games and really do all the hoorah and screaming. So it was good to see my family here. It’s been a long road to end up in this situation, and I’m grateful for it. And just coming back and seeing a lot of things that I’m familiar with growing up.”

Jason Witten is the only player in team history with more catches in game, having caught 18 in a game against the Giants in 2012. Lamb wasn’t even in high school then.

Lamb’s 17 catches were the most by any NFL player since Keenan Allen had 18 in Week 3 of 2023.

He had never had more than 13 receptions in a game until Sunday, and his 189 yards were the third-most of his career.

Lamb passed Hall of Famer Drew Pearson in the team record book for fourth in career receiving yards with 7,914. He can move into third, passing Tony Hill, with 75 yards.

“Right now, I can’t really fathom it, but I will say I’m grateful for the opportunity,” Lamb said. “It’s a lot of emotions going through me right now. As far as preparing for the next game, that’s how I motivate myself. What can I possibly do the next game to capitalize off this one? But a moment of gratitude. I’m definitely happy to be in this position, and I’m happy for the opportunity, and I’m looking forward to breaking more records. That’s nothing toward the guys ahead of me, but here I come.”
