Giants running back Cam Skattebo is set to make his return to the lineup in Week 1, but it wasn’t always a sure thing in his mind that he’d return after dislocating his right ankle in the seventh game of his rookie season.
During an appearance on Up & Adams, Skattebo said that he gave himself one rule when he moved from college to the NFL “and it was if I ever got a major injury, I was done playing.” Skattebo went on to say that it took some time for him to find the headspace that would allow him to move forward after the injury.
“Probably a month in,” Skattebo said. “The first month was kind of like, ‘Damn, do I really want to do this?’ It was seven games. I was like, ‘You know, I got to go back and play.’”
Once Skattebo decided that he would keep playing, his rehab process was a relatively smooth one and he was back on the practice field during the spring. The preseason also unfolded without issue, so Skattebo’s thoughts are likely on football alone with the final step in his return just around the corner.
