C.J. Gardner-Johnson has two picks, Eagles lead 24-7 at halftime

The Cowboys and Eagles both are playing backup quarterbacks today. The Eagles’ backup quarterback is outplaying the Cowboys’ backup quarterback.

Kenny Pickett has thrown a touchdown, and his 1-yard touchdown run on the final play of the half has the Eagles leading the Cowboys 24-7 at halftime.

Three Cowboys turnovers have resulted in 17 points for the Eagles. Safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson has two interceptions, including a pick-six of Cooper Rush.

Gardner-Johnson went 69 yards for a touchdown with the Cowboys driving on their first drive. He ended the half with another pick of Rush, returning it 27 yards after Rush tried to go deep to Brandin Cooks into triple coverage.

Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson lost a fumble that was forced by Oren Burks and recovered by Jordan Davis at the Dallas 39. The Eagles went 26 yards in 11 plays to set up Jake Elliott’s 31-yard field goal.

The Eagles have outgained the Cowboys 176 to 161, but the Cowboys had three turnovers, a touchdown and two punts on six drives.

Rush is 11-of-19 for 102 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, and Cooks has four catches for 52 yards. Rico Dowdle has 12 carries for 43 yards.

Pickett is 9-of-14 for 133 yards and a touchdown and has the touchdown run on a quarterback push play. He failed to get in on the first sneak, and with two seconds left, the Eagles tried it again, and Pickett was pushed into the end zone.

Saquon Barkley has only 40 yards on 13 carries in his quest for 2,000 yards and possibly Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record. The Eagles running back entered the day with 1,838 yards.

DeVonta Smith has three catches for 76 yards and a touchdown, a 22-yarder. He had another touchdown — a 50-yarder — overturned to a 49-yard catch to the 1 when replay showed his knee down before he reached the end zone. Pickett scored two plays later as time expired in the first half.
