The Buccaneers were down to one unsigned draft pick when Tuesday got underway, but they’ll close the day with everyone under contract.
The team announced that kicker Roberto Aguayo became the final member of the 2016 draft class to agree to a deal with the team. He might have been the final pick to sign, but he’ll rank higher on the list of most watched Bucs rookies in 2016.
The Buccaneers traded third- and fourth-round picks to the Chiefs in order to move up into the second round and take Aguayo with the 59th overall pick. Trades like that happen all the time, but you rarely see teams making such deals so that they can take a kicker so early in the draft. Aguayo is one of four kickers who have been taken in the first two rounds since the 1992 draft.
Aguayo was highly successful at Florida State, making 88.5 percent of his field goal attempts and all of his extra point tries while at the school. He’ll get the chance to show he can continue to produce in the pros right away.
