The Buccaneers announced an assistant coaching hire on Monday and said that the addition of Brett Maxie as the team’s defensive backs coach rounds out Dirk Koetter’s staff.

Maxie was an assistant at Vanderbilt for the last two seasons and spent time with the Titans, Cowboys, Dolphins, Falcons and 49ers before dropping down to the college ranks. Maxie also played 13 seasons as a defensive back in the NFL with most of his time spent as a member of the Saints.

Maxie’s hiring comes a day after the Buccaneers named Todd Monken as their offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach. Maxie, Monken, defensive coordinator Mike Smith, special teams coordinator Nate Kaczor, defensive line coach Jay Hayes, linebackers coach Mark Duffner and secondary coach Jon Hoke are the new additions to the staff.

The other 15 coaches on the staff are holdovers from Lovie Smith’s second and final staff in Tampa.
