The Broncos have lost one of their backup defensive ends for the season.
Denver placed second-year pro Quanterus Smith (knee) on injured reserve Saturday, the club said. Smith was added to the injury report on Thursday and ruled out after not practicing Friday.
To replace Smith, the Broncos called up rookie linebacker Shaquil Barrett (6-2, 250) from the practice squad.
The 25-year-old Smith appeared in 15 games as a reserve for Denver this season, notching 11 tackles. Per Pro Football Focus, Smith played 308 snaps, with 212 snaps coming as a pass rusher. He was listed as the top backup to DeMarcus Ware at right defensive end.
The Broncos host the Colts in a divisional playoff game in Denver at 4:40 p.m. Eastern on Sunday.
