Broncos interested in Ryan Fitzpatrick, but only at the right price

The Broncos would like to sign free agent quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. They just wouldn’t like to pay what Fitzpatrick is asking.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Broncos have reached out to Fitzpatrick, but they’re not willing to pay the salary that Fitzpatrick’s agents told Denver he wants.

Fitzpatrick is the best free agent quarterback currently available, but so far he hasn’t been able to find a home. It’s unclear exactly how much money Fitzpatrick is seeking, but it is clear that he didn’t immediately find an offer that was to his liking.

Last year Fitzpatrick had a career-high 3,905 passing yards and a career-high 31 touchdowns. But he’s 33 years old, and most teams looking for a franchise quarterback want a younger player they can keep in place for years to come.

The Broncos have lost two quarterbacks, Peyton Manning to retirement and Brock Osweiler to the Texans, while acquiring one quarterback, Mark Sanchez, in a trade with the Eagles. Denver would like to add another quarterback, and that quarterback might be Fitzpatrick -- just not until he lowers his asking price.
