49ers quarterback Brock Purdy’s right elbow injury will likely end his 2024 season.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan said on a Tuesday conference call that Purdy will probably not play against the Cardinals in Week 18. Purdy injured his elbow in Monday night’s loss to the Lions and had an MRI to determine the severity of the injury.
Shanahan described the injury as a contusion with nerve inflammation. Purdy had surgery on his right elbow after being injured in the NFC Championship Game during his rookie season, but Shanahan said there’s no concern about long-term implications related to this injury,
Purdy will become eligible to sign a contract extension this offseason, but remains under contract for the 2025 season. One of the lead storylines around the team in the coming months will be how they approach any conversations about a deal with the quarterback.
