Brock Bowers: Record-setting rookie year pretty shocking, pretty cool

The 2024 season hasn’t been a terribly pleasant one for the Raiders, but they can take some solace in the fact that they nailed their first-round pick in April.

Tight end Brock Bowers broke Rams wideout Puka Nacua’s year-old record for rookie receptions on Sunday and he also broke a much longer-standing mark by passing Mike Ditka’s 1961 record for receiving yards for a rookie tight end. If that wasn’t enough, Bowers also set the Raiders’ single-season reception record.

“It’s pretty awesome,” Bowers said, via the team’s website. “It’s always been a childhood goal to play in the NFL, obviously. Then to come in here and be able to catch as many balls as I did and get as many yards as I did, it’s pretty shocking to me. It’s pretty cool.”

Sunday’s win was the second in a row for the 4-12 Raiders and Bowers said he felt like “we’ve been due” for better results. Using Bowers as a building block for more of them in the future should be a focus of the offseason in Las Vegas.
