Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall wasn’t lacking for attention after Sunday’s 24-17 loss to the Eagles, but we’re guessing it wasn’t the kind of attention he was looking for when he recently complained about a lack of recognition as one of the league’s best receivers.
Marshall had all eyes on him in the second quarter of the game when he tried to lateral the football while being tackled by a couple of Eagles at the end of a 15-yard gain. Marshall’s lateral may have been intended for tight end Jeff Cumberland, but it had about as much chance of reaching the Cumberland Gap as it did of reaching a member of the Jets. Eagles linebacker Jordan Hicks recovered and the Eagles scored a touchdown to go up 24-0.
Given his desire for attention, it’s not a big surprise that Marshall went the hyperbolic route while discussing what happened on the play.
“Wrong time to gamble,” Marshall said, via the team. “I was pressing, trying to make a play. Probably the worst play in NFL history.”
Come now, Brandon. It was a bad decision for the ages and may be the worst play in your career, but there are enough fake spikes, years with Rich Kotite and Buttfumbles in Jets history to assure that this wasn’t even the worst in franchise history.
