Bill Parcells’ horse wins $250,000 race

A horse owned by Hall of Fame coach Bill Parcells won a $250,000 race on Saturday afternoon at New York’s Belmont Park.

Saratoga Snacks captured the Empire Classic Handicap for New York-bred horses by about a length after sitting just off a strong pace and taking over the lead near the top of the stretch.

The victory was the four-year-old horse’s seventh in 10 career starts and raised his career earnings to $464,600.The winner’s share of the purse was $150,000.

Saratoga Snacks was second in the Empire Classic in 2012.

A horse racing enthusiast, Parcells purchased Saratoga Snacks’ one-year-old brother for $105,000 in August.
