Former Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar has a court date scheduled for today stemming from his drunk driving arrest last year.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that a judge is expected to set Kosar’s trial date today. Kosar was arrested in September and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence.
According to WOIO, Kosar was stopped for driving 74 miles an hour in a 50 construction zone, while workers were on the job site. The officer who pulled Kosar over says that when asked for his license, Kosar instead handed over two credit cards. The officer said there was a strong odor of alcohol coming from Kosar, and that Kosar failed a field sobriety test. Kosar told police that he was unable to perform sobriety tests because of football injuries, which he told officers were because “his line couldn’t block,” according to police.
Kosar also blamed football injuries -- specifically concussions -- for his slurred speech, which he says is the reason he was removed from his job as a color commentator during Browns preseason games.
