The rivalry between the Steelers and Bengals has intensified in recent years, and as hot as it might burn, Bengals defensive tackle Domata Peko was at least polite about it.
Via USA Today, Peko was speaking at a promotional event in London, and was asked to complete the sentence: “The Steelers are, . . .”
“Pieces of bleep,” Peko replied, making the beeping sound to go with what would have been an expletive if he weren’t so well-mannered.
“Oh, we hate them,” he later said. “For us, each time we play the Steelers, the whole city is like ‘beat these fools’ and whenever we beat them, it is a big party in Cincinnati. It’s a big rivalry for us.”
That’s not necessarily a big surprise, given the way recent games have gone.
But it’s at least refreshing to hear the enmity expressed so plainly, and in such a civil manner despite the content of the message.
