Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be on the opposite side of the field from Carson Wentz this weekend, which is something he expected to be the case heading into this year’s draft.

He didn’t expect to be facing Wentz when the Steelers took on the Eagles, however. Roethlisberger thought that the Browns would take Wentz with the second overall pick, but, as we’ve since learned, the Browns didn’t have him rated nearly that high.

“He’s a heady player,” Roethlisberger said on a conference call with Eagles media, via NJ.com. “He’s smart. Understands the game. Physically gifted, both with his legs and his arm. He can make all the throws. I was really surprised, I thought I would be facing him two times a year in Cleveland.”

Roethlisberger has some experience with being passed over by the Browns in the draft as he was on the board in 2004 when Cleveland opted to take tight end Kellen Winslow with the sixth overall pick. That’s something Roethlisberger used as fuel earlier in his career while it likely continues to fuel bad feelings for many Browns fans who wonder how the last decade would have turned out if Roethlisberger was their quarterback.
