Bears defensive end Julius Pepper spent some of his fortune on a great cause Saturday.
Neil Hayes of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that Peppers rented a private plane so that the majority of the Bears defense could attend the funeral of Brian Urlacher’s mother, Lavoyda Lenard.
Team chairman George McCaskey, president Ted Phillips, general manager Jerry Angelo, coach Lovie Smith and linebackers’ coach Bob Babich were also among the contingent expected to attend.
The funeral was held in Lovington, New Mexico. Afterwards, the defensive players and team personnel flew back to New Orleans where the Bears face the Saints on Sunday.
