Bears’ Braxton Jones suffers ankle fracture, should be back before training camp

Bears left tackle Braxton Jones was carted off the field on Sunday with an ugly injury, but it may not be quite as bad as it looked.

Jones suffered a fractured ankle that will require about a four-month recovery, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. That should have him ready to go well before the start of training camp.

The early indications are that Jones broke his fibula but not his tibia, and that all in all it’s better news than feared when the Bears’ medical staff put Jones’ leg in an air cast and rushed him to the hospital.

Jones became a starter as a rookie after the Bears drafted him in the fifth round in 2022. The 2025 season will be the final year on Jones’ rookie contract, and he will have a base salary of $1.1 million.
