Former NFL offensive lineman Barret Robbins, best known for going AWOL days before Super Bowl XXXVII and contributing to a blowout loss by the Raiders, is back in the news for the wrong reasons.

Via the Associated Press, Robbins faces a pair of felony battery counts after allegedly approaching a woman and her daughter outside a Boca Raton hotel on Monday and “punching them repeatedly.” After the assault, Robbins sat down on a bench and waited for the police.

TMZ adds that, before the assault on the woman and her daughter, Robbins attacked someone inside a bar and hit someone outside the bar.

Robbins has a long history of depression and mental illness. A 2005 altercation with police resulted in Robbins being shot three times. Released from custody in 2012, Robbins refused to talk to the media and disappeared from view for a couple of years.

It’s the latest chapter in a sad story. Here’s hoping Robbins gets the help he needs.
