Second-year cornerback Anthony Gaitor is closing in on a return for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Gaitor will resume practicing with the Buccaneers on Wednesday according to the team’s official site after being forced to miss the last six weeks while on injured reserve.
Gaitor was placed on injured reserve with a designation to return on Oct. 9 with a hamstring injury suffered during the preseason. By rule, Gaitor can return to practice after six weeks but cannot return to the active roster until eight weeks after being placed on injured reserve.
A seventh-round pick in 2011, Gaitor played in eight games for the Buccaneers last year and recorded three tackles defensively and two on special teams. The Buccaneers will have 21 days from the first day he practices (Wednesday) to activate him. Gaitor can return as soon as the Buccaneers game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Dec. 9.
The Buccaneers are currently last in the league in pass defense allowing 312.6 yards a game.
