Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer and tailback Andre Ellington went through limited practices Friday and are listed as questionable for Sunday’s game at the Giants.
That Palmer and Ellington took part in the last practice of the week can’t be a bad sign for their availability. Palmer, who has a right shoulder injury, has been limited throughout the week, while Ellington (foot) sat out Wednesday and Thursday.
According to the club’s website, Ellington said he was “good to go” for Week Two. He started the season opening win vs. San Diego, touching the ball 18 times (13 carries, five catches).
It also appears Palmer is on track for Sunday. Cardinals coach Bruce Arians noted that Palmer played well in last season’s win at St. Louis despite not practicing at all, according to Darren Urban of AzCardinals.com.
“It’s been sore, but we’ve been down this road before,” Arians said of Palmer, according to the club’s website.
While Palmer and Ellington are questionable, second-year safety Tyrann Mathieu (knee) is probable after putting in three full practices this week. He practiced fully leading up to Week One, but he was inactive after being termed as questionable. As the Cardinals note on their injury report, “probable” is equivalent to a 75 percent chance of playing, with “questionable” 50 percent.
The 22-year-old Mathieu was a standout as a rookie, notching 68 tackles and intercepting a pair of passes in 13 games (11 starts). He is more than nine months removed from ACL and LCL tears.
