We passed along a report back in February that the Rams were trying to re-sign wide receiver Mark Clayton, and it was believed they were close to doing so.

It didn’t happen before the work stoppage, but it’s expected to eventually.

In a mailbag column on Thursday, Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch writes that he’s “hearing it’s all but a slam-dunk that Clayton will re-sign with the team once the lockout ends.”

It makes you wonder if Clayton already has a loose agreement with the Rams and whether other similar discussions are going on quietly throughout the league during the lockout. (Of course they are.)

Clayton is coming off a torn patellar tendon surgery, and it’s likely the receiver-needy Rams would want him more than any other team.
