Adrian Peterson missing workouts isn’t an unusual thing

Peterson

Adrian Peterson isn’t expected when the Vikings begin voluntary workouts today, but that’s not necessarily anything new.

But he apparently isn’t costing himself any money in the process, either.

Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press points out that Peterson has routinely skipped the start of offseason workouts, so him skipping today isn’t necessarily a sign he’s disgruntled.

(Of course, the messages sent forth by his agent this offseason make it clear the veteran running back is far from gruntled with the Vikings at the moment).

At least today’s absence won’t necessarily cost him anything. The report says that Peterson’s $250,000 workout bonus is tied to 90 percent attendance at OTAs and minicamps, rather than just the conditioning work that’s happening now.

Instead, he’s working out in Houston, waiting to see if he’s traded before those OTAs start. And with $13 million headed his way this year, that workout bonus might not be enough to modify his behavior anyway.
