Aaron Rodgers becomes most-sacked QB in history, gets called for late hit

Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers wants to play all 17 games this season and his desire to keep playing allowed him to set an NFL record on Sunday afternoon.

Gregory Rousseau sacked Rodgers for the 566th time in his career in the third quarter in Buffalo, which broke a tie with Tom Brady for the most-sacked quarterback in the history of the league. Sacks only became an official NFL stat for defenders in 1982, but they’ve been recorded for quarterbacks since 1963. If you include pre-1963 numbers, Fran Tarkenton is the all-time leader with 570 sacks and Rodgers could get there if he plays through Week 18.

Rodgers than added another interesting wrinkle to his career resume on the next play. After being intercepted by Bills corner Christian Benford, Rodgers was flagged for a late hit for hitting Benford once he was out of bounds.

It was Rodgers’s second interception of the day and the Bills lead 12-0 with just over six minutes to play in the third quarter.
