Aaron Maybin clears waivers

Buffalo Bills v Green Bay Packers

Any team that wanted Aaron Maybin at his 2011 base salary of $757,500 could have had him. And no team wanted him.

Maybin cleared waivers today, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Maybin is now an unrestricted free agent.

That says a lot about just how disappointing Maybin has been since the Bills took him out of Penn State with the 11th overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft. It’s extremely rare for a player to be waived just two years after being a high first-round draft pick, and also extremely rare for a talented 23-year-old to hit the open market.

Now we’ll see whether any NFL team is willing to give Maybin another chance, or whether the 27 games he played for the Bills will be the only 27 games of his NFL career.
