Anquan Boldin wasn’t the only person to re-up with the San Francisco 49ers on Monday.
According to Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News, secondary coach Ed Donatell has re-signed with the 49ers. The deal is a two-year contract.
Donatell has spent the last three seasons as the secondary coach for the 49ers. The team blocked him from interviewing with the New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers in recent seasons for their defensive coordinator positions and he appears comfortable in his role in San Francisco.
Donatell had been a coaching nomad in prior years before landing with the 49ers. After serving as defensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons under Jim Mora from 2004-06, he never spent more than two years in the same location before finding stability in San Francisco. Donatell spent a year as a special assistant for the New York Jets in 2007 and a year as defensive coordinator at the University of Washington in 2008. He spent two seasons as defensive backs coach on Josh McDaniels staff in Denver before landing with the 49ers in 2011.
After years of constant shuffle, the stability with the 49ers has to be appealing.
