49ers place Trent Williams on IR, shut down Dre Greenlaw

The 49ers have made a couple of roster moves, while also shutting down a defensive player for the season’s final two games.

San Francisco announced left tackle Trent Williams has been placed on injured reserve, officially ending his 2024. He hasn’t played since Week 11 with an ankle injury.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan also told reporters in his Thursday press conference that linebacker Dre Greenlaw will not play in the last two games. Greenlaw returned from his torn Achilles in Week 15, experiencing knee soreness during the loss to the Rams. He then experienced calf soreness in the Week 16 loss to the Dolphins.

Greenlaw is slated to become a free agent in the offseason.

The 49ers signed offensive lineman Matt Hennessy off of Atlanta’s practice squad to a two-year deal. He’s appeared in 45 career games with 22 starts, including four games this season for the Falcons.

Additionally, offensive lineman Sebastian Gutierrez has been signed to San Francisco’s practice squad.
