49ers DE Mykel Williams: “Losing my mind” with excitement for return to lineup

49ers defensive end Mykel Williams’s long path back to the field after last season’s torn ACL is close to the finish line.

Williams is expected to be activated for this Sunday’s game against the Seahawks and that would mark his first time in the team’s lineup since Week 9 of last season. The 2025 first-round pick said it’s been “killing me” to watch the 49ers struggle to produce a consistent pass rush with Nick Bosa out of action early this season and that he’s itching to finally cut loose.

“I’m going crazy. I’m losing my mind,” Williams said, via Josh Dubow of the Associated Press. “I’m ready to go. I’m excited to play ball. I miss playing ball. It’s been like damn near a year since I played, so I just want to get back on the field.”

Williams had 20 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble before the injury ended his rookie season. In addition to rehab work, he’s spent his time away from the field becoming leaner and honing in on other ways to increase his burst. Williams said “we’re going to see Sunday” if that had the desired effect and the 49ers’ chances of moving to 5-0 will look a lot better if Williams hits the ground running.
