The Packers are expected to keep only three running backs this season.
P.J. Pope and Arliss Beach are most likely the odd men out with Vernand Morency and Brandon Jackson pretty secure. That would leave Noah Herron and seventh-round rookie DeShawn Wynn fighting for the third and final spot.
  • DEN Running Back
Packers RB P.J. Pope injured his knee in a full-contact workout during a scrimmage on Saturday night.
The extent of the injury was not revealed, but the Packers say it’s a sprain that could keep him out of action for a little while. Pope is battling Noah Herron, DeShawn Wynn, and Corey White for the No. 3 halfback job.
  • DEN Running Back
P.J. Pope is expected to miss a “couple of weeks” after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery on Monday.
DeShawn Wynn and Brandon Jackson should both see a lot of work during the Packers’ exhibition opener Saturday at Pittsburgh. Pope was being given a look as a short-yardage back. This will hurt his chances of making the club.
  • DEN Running Back
Bears signed RB P.J. Pope to their practice squad.
Pope, who was released by the Packers, is recovering from a knee surgery, but is well enough to help in practice. The Bears released WR David Ball to make room for him.
  • DEN Running Back
Packers RB P.J. Pope (knee surgery) “isn’t anywhere close to returning” to practice, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
The team could consider stashing Pope on season-ending injured reserve.
  • DEN Running Back
P.J. Pope reportedly has a chance to win a roster spot in Green Bay as a short-yardage back.
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel says Pope has an outside chance for the starting tailback job because of the lackluster competition in Green Bay. Pope remains a long shot to have fantasy value, but he’s worth monitoring this month.
  • DEN Running Back
    Packers released RB P.J. Pope.
Pope had been battling for the third spot, but wasn’t expected to be ready for some time after knee surgery. He was released with an injury settlement.
  • GB Running Back
Packers coach Mike McCarthy says Vernand Morency and P.J. Pope are still “a couple of weeks away” from returning to practice.
Both will miss the next two preseason games, which are considered the most important. Morency is currently atop the Packers’ depth chart , but probably won’t be ready for a full load when he returns. Brandon Jackson looks more likely to start in Week 1. Pope, a backup, is recovering from knee surgery.
  • DEN Running Back
Bears placed RB P.J. Pope on practice squad/injured reserve with a ruptured pectorals muscle, ending his season.
He was replaced by former Notre Dame DL Chris Frome. Pope has shown promise in training camps for two straight offseasons with Green Bay and Chicago, but injuries have brought both of those seasons to a close.
  • DEN Running Back
Bears signed RB P.J. Pope to a reserve/future contract.
Pope, something of a short-yardage prospect, tore his pectorals while on the Bears’ practice squad in November. He’s very unlikely to bump Garrett Wolfe off the roster this offseason and make the 2008 club.
