Titans S Nick Schommer is a long shot to make the team this season.
Schommer, a seventh-round pick last season, ran with the second team at minicamp. But with the Titans drafting two safeties (Myron Rolle and Robert Johnson), Schommer has a very steep climb ahead of him.
  • TEN Defensive Back
Titans signed seventh-round S Nick Schommer to a four-year contract.
Schommer made third-team FCS All American as a senior at North Dakota St. He might be an option to replace special teamer Donnie Nickey by 2010.
  • PIT Defensive Back
Titans released S Tuff Harris and S Nick Schommer.
Harris is a practice squad player that got promoted to a game last year. Schommer was a seventh-round pick this year and will have a chance to make it on special teams next year.
  • TEN Defensive Back
    Titans waived S Nick Schommer.
Schommer, a seventh-round rookie out of North Dakota State, was unable to beat out Donnie Nickey for a backup safety/special teams position.
  • HOU Wide Receiver
Titans signed WR Paul Williams, OG Ryan Durand, DL Kareem Brown, WR Phillip Morris, S Nick Schommer, and LB Mike Rivera to reserve/futures contracts.
It’s well past time for the Titans to cut the fish loose with Williams. The 2007 third-rounder has never come close to seeing playing time. Schommer and Durand were 2008 draft picks that spent the season on the practice squad.
  • TEN Defensive Back
The Titans reportedly considered benching SS Chris Hope late in the season in favor of Nick Schommer.
Hope ultimately talked them out of it, but it isn’t a good sign for his future in Tennessee -- and especially not with a $6.5 million salary coming in 2011. The Titans reportedly like Schommer’s physicality and playmaking ability in practice. Ideally, they’d find someone with better cover skills.
  • FA Defensive Back #32
Titans rookie safeties Robert Johnson and Myron Rolle reportedly need “good showings soon,” if they want to make the final 53-man roster.
Beat writer Jim Wyatt gives the current edge to Johnson citing his athletic and playmaking ability. Nick Schommer is also in the mix for the team’s fifth safety job.
  • TEN Defensive Back
    Titans released S Nick Schommer.
Schommer failed to make an impression on the new regime and also dealt with nagging injuries during his time with the Titans. Chris Hope and Anthony Smith are the team’s top two strong safeties.
