What NFL game is on tonight: Start time, how to watch for Thursday Night Football, Week 16 schedule

Expectations for Broncos' Nix, Sutton in Week 16
RFS examines Week 16 fantasy outlooks for Bo Nix and Courtland Sutton amid their growing connection, sharing why managers should "pump the brakes" a bit on the rookie QB before plugging him into lineups.

There’s lots on the line tonight on Thursday Night Football as the Denver Broncos (9-5) visit the Los Angeles Chargers (8-6) at SoFi Stadium — with a win, the Broncos would clinch a spot in the postseason, their first playoff berth since winning Super Bowl 50 in the 2015 season. After losing their first two games, Denver has gone 9-3 since and enters tonight’s matchup as the six seed in the AFC. They also enter TNF on a four-game winning streak, with 29+ points scored in each of those four wins.

The Los Angeles Chargers currently sit in the seventh spot in the AFC, ie the final Wild Card at 8-6. A win tonight doesn’t clinch them a playoff berth, but if they beat the Broncos and the Colts and Dolphins both lose on Sunday, the Chargers would be through to the playoffs. Under head coach Jim Harbaugh’s leadership, 2024 looks a lot better for the Chargers than 2023 — the team finished last season 5-12 and last in the AFC West. But after starting this season 7-3, LAC has lost three of their last four and is maintaining just a tenuous grasp on a playoff spot. They’re coming off a thrashing at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 15, giving up a season-high 40 points in the 40-17 loss.

This is the second meeting between these two teams this season — in Week 6, the Chargers beat the Broncos 23-16, but the scoreline didn’t tell the full story: Los Angeles was up 23-0 entering the fourth quarter, but Denver scored 16 unanswered points in the final frame to narrow the lead to just one score. The Broncos attempted an onside kick with just over a minute remaining, but LAC took over after the kick went out of bounds, kneeling out the clock for an unexpectedly narrow win.
