Despite losing Kyler Murray (concussion) in the first quarter and being outgained 419-239 in Total Yards, the Vikings did enough on offense to capitalize on opportunities created by their defense to dismantle the Packers, 39-22. Carson Wentz was 12/19 for 133 yards and three touchdowns in relief of Murray. On a weekend when points were being scored in record numbers, the Bears led all offenses. More than likely the stat that leaps off the stat sheet above all others: 291 yards gained on just 39 carries (7.5yds/carry). D’Andre Swift scored three touchdowns, and Kyle Monangai carried the ball ten times for 100 yards to pace Chicago. Ben Johnson came out during the preseason and proclaimed that the goal for his offense is to be the most prolific in league history. It may be.
The NFC North looks to be one of the strongest in the NFL which only adds to the importance of every division game. Should the Vikings earn the win and improve to 2-0 in the division, they will most certainly have a major, early-season advantage. Given the Bears’ offensive explosion in Week 1, however, Minnesota will need to be better/more efficient on both sides of the ball. That means longer, sustained drives on offense and quicker stops on defense.
Bottom-line: Without Murray under center, the home team is rightfully favored. Take the Chicago Bears and lay the 5.5 points.
