Eagles placed G/T Nate Menkin on injured reserve with a throat injury, ending his season.

Per Menkin’s Twitter feed, he has “fractured cartilage in my throat.” Ouch. A reserve lineman, Menkin made zero appearances after being claimed off waivers from the Texans in September. The UDFA out of Mary Hardin-Baylor will be hard-pressed to earn a roster spot out of camp next season.

Menkin just arrived three weeks ago in the Jeff Maehl trade, but didn’t show enough in camp to earn a roster spot. He could be stashed on the practice squad. Clutts appeared in all 16 games last season, but was a pure special teamer.

Texans acquired OT Nate Menkin from the Eagles in exchange for WR Jeff Maehl.

A second-year undrafted free agent out of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Menkin spent 2012 training camp with the Texans, so the coaching staff knows him. He didn’t appear in a game last year with Philadelphia, and ended the season on injured reserve with “fractured cartilage” in his throat.

Ex-Texans OT Nate Menkin has signed with the CFL’s Ottawa RedBlacks.

A 2012 undrafted free agent out of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Texas, Menkin has also spent time with the Eagles. He’ll try to improve his game in Canada, perhaps eyeing an eventual NFL return. Menkin stands 6'4/296 and is 25 years old.
