Lions HC Dan Campbell said after the team’s Week 7 loss to the Ravens that RB Mohamed Ibrahim was undergoing hip surgery and would stay overnight in Baltimore.
This is a tough blow for Ibrahim, who worked with the Lions as a UDFA all offseason and was only recently re-signed to the practice squad. The 24-year-old rookie dealt with a myriad of injuries during his college days at Minnesota and now has yet another hurdle to clear in hopes of keeping his NFL dream alive. Ibrahim was carted off the field in the Lions’ Week 7 loss to the Ravens and is likely to miss an extended period of time if not the remainder of the season.

Lions signed Minnesota RB Mohamed Ibrahim.
Ibrahim (5’8/203) broke out as a true freshman with over 1,000 rushing yards but would have to wait a year before earning a starting role once again. In his third season, he added another 1,000-yard season to his resume. Injuries derailed his senior campaign but he returned to put an exclamation point on his career with 1,665 yards and 20 touchdowns on 320 in 2022. Ibrahim will be 25 years old in his first NFL season and didn’t catch passes in college, making him undersized for a back who will only earn touches on the ground. He will likely be stuck in a committee throughout his time in the league.

Mohamed Ibrahim rushed 32 times for 128 yards and two touchdowns in Minnesota’s Week 10 win over Nebraska.
The Gophers trailed 10-0 at halftime in this one but outscored the Huskers 20-3 in the second half to come away with the win. Ibrahim, who continues to impress after a torn Achilles ended his 2021 season, has rushed for 100+ yards in every game this season and has yet to be kept out of the end zone. With Saturday’s performance, Ibrahim has now rushed 202 times for 1,089 yards and 15 touchdowns, surpassing the 1,000-yard mark for the third time in his career. Ibrahim will have a lot working against him during the 2023 pre-draft process. The sixth-year running back will be one of the oldest in his class, and brings a bit of an injury history with him. However, an elite final season at Minnesota will make him difficult to ignore as a potential Day 3 pick and could make him a fun late-round dart throw in dynasty drafts.

Minnesota redshirt senior RB Mohamed Ibrahim rushed 15 times for 127 yards and one touchdown in Saturday’s 26-14 loss to Illinois.
Ibrahim saw his first action of October on Saturday and moved his 100-yard rushing streak to five-straight games. The redshirt senior averaged 8.5 YPC on the afternoon, with his longest run coming on a 44-yard scamper in the second quarter to help set up a nine-yard rushing touchdown by quarterback Tanner Morgan. Since returning from a torn Achilles that ended his 2021 season, Ibrahim has been nothing short of dominant in 2022. Appearing in five games for the Golden Gophers, he’s totaled 694 yards on 104 carries, adding nine rushing touchdowns. Ibrahim will draw interest from NFL teams during next year’s draft, but his draft stock is far from settled. Continued success and proven health should only add to a draft stock that had a lot of questions heading into this season.

Minnesota redshirt senior RB Mohamed Ibrahim rushed 22 times for 103 yards and one touchdown in Saturday’s 24-7 win over Michigan State.
Ibrahim’s early-season dominance continues, as the senior running back averaged 47 YPC on his way to his fourth-straight 100-yard game. His lone score came on a two-yard plunge early in the first quarter, but Ibrahim was solid throughout this one, proving once again that he’s fully recovered from a torn Achilles that ended his 2021 season. Ibrahim’s college production profile will be one of the more impressive ones in the 2023 NFL Draft, but concerns abound about his health. As long as he continues to prove doubters wrong, he could garner top-100 draft capital in next year’s draft. He’s a player to monitor as conference play begins in the Big Ten.

Minnesota redshirt senior Mohamed Ibrahim (Achilles) will particulate in fall practice.
This is big for the Gophers as their offense significantly suffered without Ibrahim (5'10"/210) in the backfield. Coming off a stellar 2020 where he averaged 153.7 yards per game, he looked well on his way to another impressive season as he had 163 yards and two touchdowns against Ohio State before tearing that Achilles. We’ll have to watch his workload during the fall to gauge whether or not he’s healthy enough to sustain a heavy workload.

Minnesota senior running back Mohamed Ibrahim is among his conference’s most solid in yards after contact.
Ibrahim (5'10"/210) announced his intent to return for the Gophers ahead of the 2022 season and that should give fans of this offense something to be excited about. He was limited last season after suffering an Achilles injury, but finished out the previous year with 201 rushes for 1,076 yards, 5.4 yards per carry and fifteen touchdowns in just seven games during the pandemic shortened 2020 season. According to PFF, he also has more yards after contact than any Big Ten running back outside of Jonathan Taylor since 2018 with 1,892 yards.
