The former #4 pick in the draft has been a mainstay for the Bills O-line the last two seasons. Williams was said to be in poor physical condition.

The third-year right tackle skipped Tuesday after being demoted to the second team.

“You can’t make this club in the tub,” Del Rio said. Willims is out with a back injury.

The lackluster former Bills top ten pick has played around 370 pounds for his career. For now, he’s behind Maurice Williams on the depth chart at right tackle.

He was carted off the field, and was taken for “precautionary” x-rays.

He was walking with a neck brace on after the game.

A minor surprise and bad news for the Bills offense. Williams has been playing well lately.

Williams, unsurprisingly, won’t be eased into the lineup. Stephon Heyer has been demoted, as free agent acquisition Artis Hicks lined up at right tackle. The interior line was: LG Derrick Dockery, C Casey Rabach, RG Mike Williams. Heyer could ultimately end up back in the mix if Williams struggles, and Hicks kicks inside to guard. Heyer would then take over on the right.

The once-left-for-dead former No. 4 overall pick is locked in as Washington’s starting right guard at the present. “I really didn’t work out before in the offseason,” admitted Williams, 30. “I was one of those guys. It took me some time, but I get it.” Listed at 370, Williams is currently down to 332.

It’s interesting that tackle Stephon Heyer is moving to a reserve role rather than right guard Mike Williams. Heyer certainly hasn’t done anything earn a starting job, but neither has Williams. Hicks remains likely to see time at both spots this season.
