  • PHI Tackle #77
Eagles coach Nick Sirianni confirmed Mekhi Becton will begin his Philadelphia tenure at tackle.
The Eagles signed Becton to a one-year contract at the end of April after losing Jack Driscoll and Sua Opeta to free agency. Becton has dealt with a myriad of injuries during his brief career, appearing in just 31 games across four seasons. This likely played a role in the Jets’ decision not to bring him back after his rookie contract expired in 2023. If he can stay on the field, Becton can provide stability along the right side of the line when needed. He earned a PFF pass-blocking grade of 60.7 last season but made all but two of his starts at left tackle and faced several top EDGE rushers on that side of the ball.

Eagles agreed to terms with OT Mekhi Becton on a one-year contract.
Worth “up to” $5.5 million, the deal is contingent on a Monday physical, which is no sure thing in Becton’s case. Still, Philly undoubtedly knows what it is getting into. The Eagles, who addressed guard but not tackle during the draft, have needed a swing tackle since losing Jack Driscoll and Sua Opeta in free agency. Becton finally stayed healthy in 2023, but was more part of the problem than solution on the Jets’ right side.

NBC Houston’s Aaron Wilson reports free agent OT Mekhi Becton is visiting the Bengals on Thursday.
Wilson reports Becton also has two other visits scheduled. Becton finally stayed reasonably healthy last season but was amongst the league’s least effective tackles in the process. The Bengals do have a hole opposite Orlando Brown.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports Mekhi Becton (ankle) won’t play in Week 12 against the Dolphins.
After suffering a sprained ankle in Sunday’s loss to the Bills, Becton was always considered a long shot to play on the short week. The third-year tackle has officially been ruled out for Friday’s contest, which will open the door for Carter Warren to draw the start to protect new starting QB Tim Boyle.

Jets OT Mekhi Becton (ankle/knee) is listed as questionable for Week 12 against the Dolphins.
Becton participated in the team’s walkthrough practice on Tuesday and still has a shot to suit up against Miami. He’s coming off an ankle sprain he sustained in Week 11 against the Bills — an injury that appeared far more serious than it was. Becton has been an important piece of the Jets’ offensive line this season.

Jets OT Mekhi Becton (ankle/knee) was upgraded to “limited” in Wednesday’s practice.
Becton was initially expected to miss a week or two because of the ankle issue, but Robert Saleh told reporters he would take part in the team’s walkthrough on Tuesday. The team still estimated him as a DNP. Things are trending in the right direction for Becton to play on Friday. That would be a notable win for a team giving Tim Boyle the starting nod under center this week.

Jets OT Mekhi Becton (ankle) will take part in the Jets walkthrough practice on Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that Becton would miss between 1-2 weeks with a low ankle sprain, but Jets head coach Robert Saleh later revealed that the big offensive tackle would be part of the walkthrough practice and is trying to play on Friday. Obviously, it’s great news that Becton is trying to play, but going through a walkthrough is not the same as going through a fully padded practice, so he should still be considered a longshot to suit up on Friday against the Dolphins.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports Jets OT Mekhi Becton suffered a grade 1 ankle sprain and is expected to miss 1-2 weeks.
Becton was carted off the field in Sunday’s loss to the Bills, but an MRI revealed an injury that wasn’t as severe as it initially appeared. Becton is still expected to miss some time, including Week 12’s matchup against the Dolphins, but the former first rounder should return in short order. We’ll see how things look heading into Week 13 against the Falcons, but Carter Warren, who filled in for Becton against the Bills, should draw the start this Friday.

Jets OT Mekhi Becton is set to undergo an MRI on his ankle.
According to Jets beat writer Rich Cimini, there’s “optimism” that Becton’s injury isn’t as bad as initially feared. Becton was carted off the field in the Jets’ Week 11 loss to the Bills after having his right ankle rolled up on. He will in all likelihood miss some time with his injury, but positive results on the MRI could suggest he’ll return before season’s end.

The Jets have named Mekhi Becton their starting right tackle.
Finally in shape and practicing this August after missing most of the past two years with knee issues, Becton took advantage of an opportunity on Aaron Rodgers’ right side when second-year pro Max Mitchell failed to lock the job down. It’s something of a relief for a Jets squad where the offensive line is one of the biggest question marks. Rodgers heaped praise on Becton following Saturday’s preseason finale. The next step for Becton is actually staying on the field during the regular season. Still only 24, he maintains upside.
