  • CLE Defensive Tackle #90
Browns and DT Maurice Hurst agreed to a one-year, $3.2 million contract.
Hurst played in 13 games for the Browns last season, totaling 22 tackles, four TFLs, and 1.5 sacks in his first season with the team. The former fifth-round pick has played for three teams over the last four years, and was in on 302 defensive snaps last season while earning a PFF grade of 81.0. More of a depth piece than an every-down starter, Hurst’s return will be a welcomed one by a Browns defense that ranked 13th in points allowed and first in total yards allowed.

Browns signed DT Maurice Hurst, formerly of the 49ers, to a one-year contract.
A former fifth-round pick of the Raiders, Hurst joined the 49ers in 2021. He only appeared in two games that year and missed all of 2022 with a torn biceps. Injuries have been a constant issue for Hurst, but he did flash potential early in his career. He tallied 7.5 sacks through two seasons with the Raiders before being phased out of the lineup in his third year. He’s a solid flier for the Browns, but they won’t be relying on him to make any starts this year.

49ers placed DT Maurice Hurst (torn biceps) on injured reserve, ending his season.
The team signed Akeem Spence in a corresponding move. Hurst suffered the injury at the beginning of training camp and will now end the year on injured reserve for the second season in a row. Drafted in the fifth round by the Raiders, Hurst showed some promise as a pass-rushing threat from the interior early in his career. Through two seasons, he had seven 7.5 sacks in 29 games. Injuries have since derailed his career. Spence has played on four teams in the past three seasons and doesn’t have a sack or a TFL in that time.

49ers DT Maurice Hurst will undergo surgery for a torn biceps, likely ending his season.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan broke the news of Hursts’ injury Saturday after the team’s practice. Hust is now looking at his second-straight down season with the 49ers after appearing in just two games last season due to an ankle injury. Prior to joining the 49ers in 2021, Hurst had spent three seasons with the Raiders, totaling 78 tackles, nine TFLs and eight sacks while appearing in 40 games. Hurst is one of three 49ers d-linemen dealing with injuries, which has quickly thinned out an otherwise deep group.

  • Wide Receiver #12
49ers signed WR Malik Turner, formerly of the Cowboys, to a one-year contract.
Defensive lineman Maurice Hurst was cut and is expected to be re-signed in a procedural maneuver. Turner spent the past two seasons in Dallas. Unlike in 2020, when he was made inactive for most of the year, Turner saw an unusual amount of playing time last year. Injuries to a few Cowboys wideouts put him on the field infrequently and he made the most of his limited reps by posting a 12/149/3 receiving line. Turner made a few splashy plays and could get some run as the 49ers’ WR4 during the 2022 season.

  • NE Running Back #39
    49ers re-signed RB JaMycal Hasty to a one-year, $895,000 contract.
The 25-year-old was an exclusive rights free agent, so this was his only game in town. Hasty caught 23 balls for the Niners’ banged up backfield in 2021, but he remained replacement-level as both a runner and pass catcher. Although he should have an inside track on a 53-man roster spot, Hasty will remain pure depth for 2022, and is not worth keeping around in Dynasty leagues. The Niners have also re-signed DL Kevin Givens, DL Maurice Hurst and OL Colton McKivitz. QB Nate Sudfeld was inked to a reserve/future pact.

  • CLE Defensive Tackle #90
49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said DT Maurice Hurst (high ankle sprain) will be out “at least a month.”
Shanahan put linebacker Mychal Kendricks on the same timeline to return as Hurst. The 49ers added Hurst this offseason after the Raiders waived him. Hurst notched 7.5 sacks in his first two seasons but was phased out of the Las Vegas defense in his third year. If he can make it through the final cut to 53 players, he’ll play a rotational role for San Francisco when healthy.

  • CLE Defensive Tackle #90
49ers DT Maurice Hurst (ankle) will not return for the team’s second preseason game against the Chargers.
The 49ers signed Hurst to a one-year deal this offseason after they were ravaged by injuries across their defensive line last year. If healthy, Hurst should play a rotational role as a pass-rusher from the interior. He totaled 7.5 sacks in his first two seasons with the Raiders but was phased out of their defense in his third campaign. He was waived by Las Vegas in the spring.

  • CLE Defensive Tackle #90
49ers signed DT Maurice Hurst, formerly of the Raiders.
Hurst was somewhat surprisingly waived by the Raiders last Thursday. The 26-year-old (next month) contributed 290 snaps last season, holding up reasonably well against the run. He did miss five games with injury and contributed only half a sack after tallying 7.5 between the first two years of his career. He is a sensible 90-man roster flier who will have a legitimate shot at cracking the 49ers’ 53.

    Raiders waived DT Maurice Hurst.
The No. 140 overall pick of the 2018 Draft, Hurst appeared in at least 11 games each of the past three seasons. It’s a curious time of year for him to receive his waking papers, but if you’re not in the team’s future plans, you’re not in the team’s future plans. Hurst has eight career sacks on fairly limited snaps, so he will surely get a shot on someone else’s 90-man roster. Hurst turns 26 next month.
