Giants signed Penn State DE Maurice Evans.
Evans has NFL talent, but character woes cost him a shot to be drafted. He was PSU’s starting RDE to open 2008, but his suspension allowed sophomore Aaron Maybin to flourish. Maybin later became the No. 11 overall pick.

    Giants released DE Maurice Evans.
The former Penn Stater flashed serious talent in school before getting suspended. The Giants are just too deep on the defensive line to give him a chance. He’s a candidate for the practice squad.
  • CHI Defensive Lineman
Buccaneers claimed DE Maurice Evans off waivers from the Giants.
New York was too deep to keep Evans on its 53-man roster, but he was too talented to pass through waivers unclaimed. He’ll be the Bucs’ fifth end, behind Gaines Adams, Jimmy Wilkerson, Stylez White, and Kyle Moore.
  • CHI Defensive Lineman
    Panthers released DE Maurice Evans.
Evans was on the Panthers’ practice squad. The Penn State product has real talent, but he has now been cut by three teams in the last two months. DT Sunny Harris is reportedly being re-signed by the Panthers.
  • CHI Defensive Lineman
    Bucs released DE Maurice Evans.
Someone had to go to make room for S Tanard Jackson, who is back after serving a four-game suspension.
  • CHI Defensive Lineman
Bucs waived DE Maurice Evans and CB Kyle Arrington.
Evans has an NFL-quality skill set and could appeal to some teams on waivers, especially because his base salary wouldn’t be guaranteed for the rest of 2009. He was claimed from the Giants just after the final round of cuts.
  • CHI Defensive Lineman
    Bucs re-signed DE Maurice Evans.
Evans has bounced around since going undrafted in April. Rookie Kyle Moore has a knee injury, so Evans will step in as Tampa Bay’s No. 4 defensive end.
  • CHI Defensive Lineman
Bucs placed DE Maurice Evans on injured reserve, ending his season.
It’s unclear what type of injury Evans sustained. He’s been on and off the Bucs roster this season since signing as an undrafted free agent.
  • CHI Defensive Lineman
Early entrant Penn State DE Maurice Evans was slapped with one-year probation after being caught with a small amount of marijuana last fall.
Evans was at his apartment with friends blaring music when PSU police arrived for a noise violation. They found marijuana after a search. Evans can have the charge expunged if he enters a first-time offender’s program, but this will reflect poorly on his draft stock. He is still an extremely gifted player.
  • CHI Defensive Lineman
    Bears waived DE Maurice Evans.
Evans was buried on the depth chart in Chicago, and his agent probably never should’ve advised him to sign there. He’ll get another shot elsewhere.
