FIU redshirt senior WR Maurice Alexander was fifth in yards per route run in 2018 among returning Conference USA receivers.
Making the feat even more impressive is the fact that Alexander (5'11/180) is a converted receiver. Since he’s done well on limited reps, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see him take a big step forward in 2019 for the Golden Panthers. Alexander will be chasing North Texas’ Rico Bussey, Charlotte’s Victor Tucker, Louisiana Tech’s Adrian Hardy, and Southern Miss’ Quez Watkins for the top yards per route run spot in the conference.

FIU redshirt junior WR Maurice Alexander caught five passes for 144 yards and a touchdown in Saturday’s 55-9 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Alexander is a quarterback convert who played in 13 combined games his sophomore and junior seasons. At 5-foot-11, 180 pounds, he’s probably much more suited to play wideout with his athleticism. Most of his yards in this one came on a 76-yard touchdown catch early in the first quarter where he caught the ball on a short hitch, made multiple guys miss and burst through the middle of the field for a touchdown. He will look to continue making big plays against Middle Tennessee next week.

FIU redshirt sophomore QB Maurice Alexander completed 16-of-33 passes for 162 yards with two interceptions in a 28-3 loss to Temple on Thursday in the Gasparilla Bowl.
Alexander came in for injured starter Alex McGough (collarbone), and to be blunt, was completely ineffective. He struggled with decision making, and when he did make the right decisions, he wasn’t accurate with the football. It didn’t help that his offensive line gave him very little time to throw, either. Alexander will be the favorite to be the starter for FIU next year with McGough graduating, but if the Golden Panthers are going to return to a bowl, he’s going to have to play better than this.
