Steelers selected South Dakota State OG Mason McCormick with the No. 119 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Mason McCormick (6'4/309) was an unranked interior offensive lineman in the 2018 recruiting class who decided to play just up I-29 from his hometown of Sioux Falls at South Dakota State. McCormick’s biggest knock may be the level of competition he played against at SDSU, where he received all-conference honors four times, was named a consensus All-American twice, and had the distinction of being a team captain for three years in 57 career starts. In terms of build, there is almost no width difference between his shoulders and hips. McCormick is probably maxed out on physical development, but at 24 years old that is to be expected. He uses his mature frame with reckless abandon in the run game. When blocking downhill, he has good aim in nailing his facemask to defenders on the second level. When blocking in the trenches, he has a deft understanding of digging out the lower leverage on shorter Defensive Linemen, while attacking the midsection of taller three techs. McCormick has decent agility on pulls, though he shows some stiffness when pulling square around tackles. Ultimately, McCormick is a ready-made prospect who can plug into a lineup at a position of weakness.
