Second-year pro Jarrett Johnson will replace Douglas in the starting lineup. Douglas will miss at least one regular season game.

Smith would fit at left end in Denver, but his price tag will be high. Kelly is younger and should come at a more manageable rate. The 49ers are letting Douglas hit the market because they think he’ll get huge offers elsewhere.

With seven sacks last year, Douglas is a consistent option as a 3-4 DE. His upside is limited, but you could do worse in deep IDP leagues.

The 49ers would like to have both back, but Sopoaga will want to check his value after his best season yet. At 6'2/332, he’ll be attractive to several 3-4 teams. Douglas and San Francisco are said to be far apart in negotiations.

Douglas is loyal to head coach Mike Nolan, but says that contract talks with the 49ers have been minimal, partially due to the uncertainty surrounding Nolan’s future. Still, all signs point to him returning in 2008.

The exact extent of the injury isn’t clear, but Jenkins is believed to have ligament damage and will likely need surgery. The Jets were allowing 4.0 yards per carry with four rushing touchdowns against, but suddenly become an easier matchup for opposing running backs. Most likely, usual DE Sione Pouha will move to nose tackle with Marques Douglas or Mike DeVito entering the starting lineup. The Jets lose quite a bit of girth up front.
