Green has two tackles in minimal time this year.

Rookies Tim Crowder and Marcus Thomas were listed with the twos. Sam Adams and Gerard Warren were the starting defensive tackles. Veteran defensive linemen Kenard Lang and Alvin McKinley dropped to third string.

The move saves $800,000 in cash. Green made his mark on special teams over the past five years, but he was no longer needed as a reserve linebacker after so many defensive ends converted in Denver’s new 3-4 defense.

There was a ten-minute pause in action to attend to Green, who was able to move his limbs. He was taken to a local hospital for tests. Starter Boss Bailey left the game with a sprained ankle earlier in the game.

It’s hoped that he will be ready for the season opener September 8 at Oakland, but that’s far from a certainty. Backup Louis Green, despite a scare upon being carted off Saturday, could return sooner. Green was moving under his own power after the game.

Green is Denver’s primary backup at strong-side linebacker.
