  • SF Tight End #82
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports 49ers signed TE Logan Thomas.
The converted quarterback has appeared in 30 games over the previous two seasons after missing significant time in 2021 due to a torn ACL. The 49ers had been in the market for help at tight end following the offseason departures of Ross Dwelley and Charlie Woerner, now securing a viable option behind one of the top tight ends in the game in George Kittle. The specifics of the deal have yet to be released, but it is safe to assume Thomas will see the field at a non-negligible rate after Dwelley and Woerner combined for more than 400 offensive snaps a season ago.
  • FA Tight End #82
    Commanders released TE Logan Thomas.
Just hours after the Commanders cut ties with left tackle Charles Leno, Logan Thomas became the latest Commander to get let go. Thomas caught 55 passes for 496 yards and four touchdowns over 16 games and posted a line of 184-1685-14 in four seasons with the team. His 2020 breakout (72-670-6) came in his first season as a full-time starter, as the former quarterback turned tight end enjoyed a bit of a career renaissance after switching positions. A torn ACL limited to Thomas to just six games in 2021, but he’s played in 30 of a possible 34 regular season games since 2022. Thomas will be 33 at the start of next season and could still offer value as roster depth. His release will save the Commanders $6.5 million against the cap.
  • WAS Tight End #82
Logan Thomas caught 1-of-2 targets for nine yards in the Commanders’ Week 18 loss to the Cowboys.
Thomas’ 2023 got off to a hot start. The veteran tight end caught 16 passes for 183 yards and two scores in his first five games of the season but surpassed 50 yards only twice in his last 12 games and scored only twice over that span. Originally drafted as a quarterback in the 2014 NFL Draft, Thomas was a late breakout at the tight end position. He caught 72 passes for 670 yards and six touchdowns as a 29-year-old and has been slowed by both age and injuries over the last three seasons. Thomas is under contract through next season and could be retained as a veteran presence to help usher in younger talent at the position, but the Commanders can also cut him for $1.750 million in dead cap. He’ll have little to no fantasy upside next season but could pop up as a weekly streamer should he somehow earn a starting role.
  • WAS Tight End #82
Logan Thomas caught 3-of-4 targets for 20 yards in the Commanders’ Week 17 loss to the 49ers.
Thomas has cooled off significantly after opening the season on a high note. The veteran tight end hasn’t topped 36 yards since the Commanders’ Week 11 loss to the Giants and has just 11 receptions in his last five games. His struggles can be somewhat tied to Washington’s recent offensive woes, but the team will likely look to upgrade the tight end position this upcoming offseason.
  • WAS Tight End #82
Logan Thomas caught 5-of-6 targets for 36 yards and a touchdown in the Commanders’ Week 16 loss to the Jets.
Thomas was the main culprit on Sam Howell’s first interception as the ball went through his hands into the Jets’ defenders’. Otherwise he was solid with the opportunities he got and cashed in later with a touchdown catch from Jacoby Brissett. Thomas is a streaming TE2 option next week against the 49ers.
  • WAS Tight End #82
Logan Thomas caught 1-of-3 targets for seven yards in the Commanders’ Week 15 loss to the Rams.
Thomas caught a touchdown late in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss, but it was nullified after he was flagged for offensive pass interference. The touchdown would have just been enough to save Thomas from a bad fantasy outing, but instead, he’s managed just three receptions for 22 yards in his last three games. Three-straight bad games from Thomas makes him nearly impossible to start in Week 16 against the Jets.
  • WAS Tight End #82
Logan Thomas failed to catch his lone target in the Commanders’ Week 13 loss to the Dolphins.
If not for a two-point conversion in the third quarter, Thomas’ fantasy points would have tied his reception total. The veteran tight end has been slowed in back-to-back weeks, totaling two receptions for 15 yards on five targets over that span. He and the Commanders now head into their bye week, and will look to bounce back in Week 15 against the Rams.
  • WAS Tight End #82
Logan Thomas caught 2-of-4 targets for 15 yards in the Commanders’ Week 12 loss to the Cowboys.
The Commanders tight end totaled just 15 yards in a blowout loss to the Cowboys. He has seen usage to make him a fringe TE1 in weeks past, but the dismal Commanders offense did not use him as much in Week 12. Once the game was out of hand in the fourth quarter, Cole Turner entered the lineup over Thomas. Thomas is still the primary Commanders tight end and will be a back-end TE1 against the Dolphins in Week 13.
  • WAS Tight End #82
Logan Thomas caught 5-of-8 targets for 58 yards in the Commanders’ Week 11 loss to the Giants.
A fumble by Thomas on his second reception of the day kickstarted what would be a six-turnover afternoon for the Commanders. Thomas would rebound with two catches on the following drive, which included a 29-yard reception over the middle of the field, but he was held mostly in check after his big gain. Thomas continues to see targets at a rate that can sustain fantasy success, but he’s little more than a fringe TE1. He’ll be a top-12 option on Thursday when the Commanders face the Cowboys on Thanksgiving.
  • WAS Tight End #82
Logan Thomas caught 4-of-6 targets for 31 yards in the Commanders’ Week 9 win over the Patriots.
Thomas’ six targets were about all we could ask for in this one, they just didn’t result in much. The Commanders converted on just one of four red zone opportunities on the day, robbing Thomas of any potential end zone targets to salvage an otherwise average fantasy day for the tight end. Week 10’s matchup against the Seahawks could feature a lot of scoring, putting Thomas on the streaming radar for those in need of a tight end option.
