Starting right guard Kynan Forney agreed to contract extension Wednesday on a five-year deal.
Forney, 24, will receive more than $3.6 million up front, and the contract is worth more than $9 million in base salaries from 2005-08.
  • FA Guard #74
Uche Nwaneri worked at center during the Jaguars minicamp.
A career guard, Nwaneri is working to get more comfortable at the center spot. The Jaguars will give him every chance to beat out veteran incumbent Brad Meester, while moving Vince Manuwai to right guard and Kynan Forney to left guard. The shuffle is an effort to improve the Jags’ run-blocking.
  • ATL Tackle
Falcons T Wayne Gandy and G Kynan Forney could both be cap cuts.
Gandy is 36 and recovering from a torn ACL; he’s almost certainly gone. Forney didn’t play that well before his own season-ending injury. Atlanta has re-made their line quite a bit over the last two years, which isn’t a good sign.
  • FA Guard #65
Chargers third-rounder Louis Vasquez is expected to push Kynan Forney for the starting right guard job.
Forney, a former starter with the Falcons, has the upper hand, but Vasquez has already caught coach Norv Turner’s eye. “He was very impressive,” Turner said. “He’s a big man and moves well. He is a nature pass protector and is very, very physical.”
  • FA Guard #65
Rookie Louis Vasquez and veteran Kynan Forney are battling for the Chargers’ starting right guard spot.
Vasquez started on Saturday and played three series to open the game before Forney came in to get some work with the starters. Earlier reports were that Forney had won the job, but word is that the battle will work it’s way into the regular season.
  • Chargers released G Kynan Forney.
It’s a surprise move because Forney was thought to have won the job a couple weeks ago. Now it looks like rookie Louis Vasquez will be the starter at right guard.
  • Kynan Forney has won the Chargers’ starting right guard job over rookie Louis Vasquez.
Forney, 31, has 89 career starts and is having a “tremendous” camp. The job will still go to Vasquez at some point. He fell way behind Forney due to a sprained foot, but has far more upside as both a run and pass blocker.
