  • ATL Quarterback #4
Washington placed Taylor Heinicke on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
It’s an apocalyptic scenario for the Football Team, as backup QB Kyle Allen is also on the COVID-19 list. NFL Network’s Mike Garofolo said “right now,” Kyle Shurmur would start for Washington this week against the Eagles unless Allen can test out of the league’s COVID protocol by Saturday. The Football Team is expected to sign journeyman Garrett Gilbert, who started a game last year for Dallas. Shurmur under center would necessitate serious downgrades for Terry McLaurin, Antonio Gibson, and other fantasy-relevant Football Team players. Shurmur would only be viable in the deepest superflex formats.

Washington signed QB Kyle Shurmur, formerly of the Chiefs.
The Football Team is preparing for life without Ryan Fitzpatrick after the veteran suffered a potentially serious hip injury in Week 1 against the Chargers. Taylor Heinicke will start for Washington for at least the next few weeks. Kyle Allen is the presumed backup, making Shurmur -- the son of longtime NFL coach Pat Shurmur -- the team’s third stringer. He last played for Kansas City before being waived in April 2020.

    Chiefs waived QB Kyle Shurmur.
Shurmur was an undrafted free agent out of Vanderbilt who hung around Kansas City during last season, but his time has come to an end. He had little buzz throughout the pre-draft process in 2019 and will likely have a more accomplished career in coaching than as an NFL player. His father is Pat Shurmur.

Chiefs signed QB Kyle Shurmur, RB Mike Weber, WR Joe Fortson, TE Nick Keizer, LB Emmanuel Smith, DT Braxton Hoyett, RB Elijah McGuire, DL Devaroe Lawrence and DB Chris Lammons to reserve/future contracts.
Pat’s son, Kyle spent the year on the Chiefs’ practice squad. Now a second-year UDFA, Shurmur will be a practice arm with long odds of earning No. 2, or even No. 3, duties in Kansas City.

    Chiefs waived QB Kyle Shurmur.
Shurmur was a four-year starter at Vanderbilt, but never really stuck out as a difference-maker. It’s been reported that Shurmur, like his father, wants to get into coaching after he runs out of options as a player.

Chiefs signed Vanderbilt QB Kyle Shurmur.
Pat’s son, Shurmur (6'4/230) was a four-year starter in the SEC, though he was never particularly good. Shurmur did have by far his best season as a senior. Ultimately lacking any special traits, Shurmur will try to hang around as a No. 3 quarterback with an eye toward a future coaching career.
