The agent for Dolphins LB Koa Misi claims his client’s Friday arrest was for an incident that occurred last year, during the NFL lockout.
“The whole thing went dead and suddenly now charges are filed,” said agent Kenny Zuckerman. “Koa, his attorney and myself had no knowledge that they had been filed, and we don’t understand what’s going on.” Misi was arrested on a felony battery charge. Other than that, there are few details available.

Dolphins LB Koa Misi pleaded not guilty to a felony battery charge Friday.
Misi is also charged with residential burglary and dissuading a witness in Santa Barbara, California. He’s accused of breaking down the door of an apartment and beating up a 19-year-old man inside. The incident is believed to have stemmed from a fight earlier in the night.

The Palm Beach Post still expects the Dolphins to switch to a 4-3 scheme as the primary defense this season.
The coaching staff and local media have hinted that new coordinator Kevin Coyle will flex between the 4-3 and the 3-4. Newly signed Gary Guyton is expected to battle holdover Koa Misi for the starting weak-side linebacker job this summer.

The Dolphins are reportedly weighing a move of OLB Koa Misi to inside linebacker.
The coaches appreciate Misi’s cover skills and “knack” for being around the ball, but he simply doesn’t get to the passer enough to fill the edge rusher role. It’s still a peculiar move with Karlos Dansby and Kevin Burnett entrenched as starters, and the Dolphins still undecided on the scheme they will use as a base defense under new coordinator Kevin Coyle.

Dolphins placed OLB Koa Misi (shoulder) on injured reserve, ending his season.
The extent of the shoulder injury is unknown, but it could have been minor to end his season with just two games left. The 40th overall pick in the 2010 draft, Misi has excelled as a run defender through two seasons, but struggles to bring pass rush. He managed just one sack in 12 games after posting 4.5 as a rookie. The new Dolphins coaching staff may want to give Misi a look as an inside linebacker. They need a better rusher on the edge.

Dolphins SLB Koa Misi pleaded no contest to felony battery and paid a $42,000 fine to a man he punched in the face in Santa Barbara (CA) two Aprils ago.
The victim allegedly made “nasty comments” to Misi and a group of friends from an apartment balcony. Misi, then 24, broke down the door and slugged a 19-year-old man in the kisser. Misi also paid the man for medical expenses and agreed to 400 hours of community service. The incident occurred during the 2011 NFL lockout, so we’re guessing Misi won’t be facing any league discipline.

The Palm Beach Post mentions Dolphins SLB Koa Misi as a candidate for an offseason contract extension.
Misi is entering the final year of his rookie deal and has proven to be a solid run defender. However, he brings little to the table in coverage and is typically removed on third downs. Misi started 14 games in 2012, registering 65 tackles.

Dolphins SLB Koa Misi was sentenced to three years’ probation and 400 hours of community service for his role in an April 2011 fight.
Misi’s felony battery charge was reduced to a misdemeanor. It means the run stopper won’t be facing league discipline during the final year of his rookie contract. The Palm Beach Post considers Misi an extension candidate, but we’d only expect the Dolphins to act if the terms are exceedingly team friendly.

Dolphins signed SLB Koa Misi to a four-year contract extension through 2017.
Misi, 26, was entering the final year of his rookie deal. The 40th overall pick in the 2010 draft graded out as a top-ten 4-3 outside linebacker in Pro Football Focus’ rankings last season. Misi started 14 games and registered 65 tackles and 3.5 sacks. He’s a two-down player who struggles in coverage.
