Bears waived WR/RB Velus Jones Jr.
The third-year, 27-year-old player has a chance to begin anew. Jones switched from wide receiver to running back this offseason in an attempt to retain a roster spot. After eight weeks, the experiment has concluded. Jones will likely land with another team quickly. His 4.31-second 40-yard dash speed remains usable on special teams. The Bears also released FB Khari Blasingame.
  • CHI Fullback #35
Bears FB Khari Blasingame left the team’s Week 9 matchup against the Saints to enter concussion protocol.
Blasingame was injured in the second quarter against the Saints, leaving the field to head to the blue medical tent. The Bears announced that he is being evaluated for a concussion.
  • CHI Running Back #24
Khalil Herbert suffered an ankle injury in Chicago’s Week 5 game against the Commanders and did not return.
Underthrown on a third quarter sideline route, Herbert freakishly got his cleat stuck in the turf and twisted up his own leg. It looked like a grisly injury, but Herbert got re-taped and was jumping around the sideline trying to get warm and return. He did not, even after Roschon Johnson suffered a concussion and Travis Homer injured his hamstring. That suggests at least a moderate sprain. FB Khari Blasingame had to finish out the game at running back, something the Bears wouldn’t repeat for Week 6 even if Herbert and Johnson are both sidelined. D’Onta Foreman was a healthy scratch this evening. Herbert had 10 carries for a robust 76 yards before going down, ripping multiple big gains. That included a 34-yarder on Chicago’s second drive. He should be considered highly questionable for Week 6 against the Vikings.
  • PHI Running Back #48
Bears signed FB Khari Blasingame to a two-year contract.
Blasingame joined the Bears on a one-year contract last offseason and appeared in 16 games. One of the few true fullbacks still in the league, Blasingame was used exclusively as a blocker last season, drawing just one target while failing to see a rush attempt. When he’s not paving the way for Chicago’s rushing attack, Blasingame can be spotted on the kicking and punting teams.

  • PHI Running Back #48
Bears declared FB Khari Blasingame, CB Kyler Gordon, S Jaquan Brisker, QB Tim Boyle, CB Kindle Vildor, OT Ja’Tyre Carter, and OL Larry Borom inactive for Week 13 against the Packers.
Blasingame will be inactive for the first time this year. Though not listed on the injury report, the Bears later announced his absence was due to an illness. The fullback usually picks up a 10-20 percent snap share on offense while also contributing on special teams.

  • PHI Running Back #48
Bears signed FB Khari Blasingame, formerly of the Titans, to a one-year contract.
Blasingame is primarily a blocker, recording just a dozen touches during his three-year stint with the Titans. He totaled five touches for 10 yards in 2021. Blasingame will spend most of his time blocking or on special teams.

  • PHI Running Back #48
Titans re-signed FB Khari Blasingame to a one-year contract.
Blasingame was an exclusive rights free agent. The 24-year-old has appeared in 21 games over the last two seasons, turning 10 targets into 8-93 with zero rushing attempts on a total of 233 snaps in that span.

  • PHI Running Back #48
Titans FB Khari Blasingame has been accused of rape during his time at Vanderbilt.
A woman who identified herself as Blasingame’s former girlfriend alleged a rape during the course of their relationship. In a statement, Blasingame’s agent admitted to the relationship but said all relations were consensual. It is an extremely serious allegation that the league will have to look into at once. A 2019 UDFA, Blasingame made six rookie appearances for the Titans.

  • PHI Running Back #48
Vanderbilt redshirt senior Khari Blasingame rushed four times for 16 yards and two touchdowns in Thursday’s 45-38 bowl loss to Baylor.
Blasingame (6'1/230) also went 65 yards for a receiving touchdown as the Commodores leading receiver. The redshirt senior lucked into two short touchdowns, including the vultured touchdown after RB Ke’Shawn Vaughn fell one yard short of a 66-yard touchdown. Blasingame will try to get NFL looks, and he certainly has an interesting profile. With 25 receptions and 320 receiving yards, Blasingame is a pass-catching threat at 230 pounds.
  • PHI Running Back #48
Vanderbilt redshirt senior Khari Blasingame rushed 20 times for 70 yards and one touchdown, adding six receptions for 62 yards in Saturday’s 38-13 win over Tennessee.
Blasingame (6'1/230) took on a much larger load with starting running back Ke’shawn Vaughn leaving the game early with arm and shoulder injuries, and he did so-so. The redshirt senior only managed 3.5 yards per carry, but he was a major factor as a receiver. Today’s win gets Vanderbilt into bowl season, and Blasingame would be the top running option if Vaughn is sidelined.
