The Athletic’s Daniel Popper writes that the Chargers will “be in the driver’s seat” for Khalil Mack as he tests free agency.
ESPN’s reporting has Mack playing in 2025, and Mack is already on record as saying: “As long as Justin Herbert is your quarterback, and you got Derwin James and all these guys that love the game of football, and you got Jim Harbaugh coaching them, you know you always have a chance to win. That’s a no-brainer in the sense of, yeah, if you know football, then you know.” If winning remains the main priority for Mack, it’s hard to imagine a better situation than the Chargers unless he truly wants to go ring-hunting on a bargain contract.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Chargers LB Khalil Mack will play in 2025.
After the Chargers’ devastating loss to the Texans in the Wild Card round, Mack said he wasn’t sure if he would return for his 12th NFL season. Mack, entering his age-34 season, will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh said last week that the team would be interested in bringing back Mack for 2025 after he recorded six sacks and 35 quarterback hurries over 16 games in 2024. LA had the league’s sixth lowest QB pressure rate (19 percent) in 2024.

Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh said he wants to bring Khalil Mack back for the 2025 season.
Harbaugh specifically said that he wants to bring everyone back, and “nobody more than” Mack. Soon to be 34 years old, the impending free agent had a quiet 2024 season. He totaled just six sacks a year after tallying a career-high 17 sacks. Still, Mack was an integral part of an LA defense that immediately turned things around in Harbaugh’s first season as the head coach. We fully expect GM Jim Hortiz to do everything in his power to keep the big names in town.

Chargers EDGE Khalil Mack said he doesn’t “know if [he’s] going to play football moving forward.”
Mack, an unrestricted free agent, will turn 34 in February. The Chargers are already actively recruiting him to come back for a 12th season, and Mack said complimentary things about rejoining the team. It does seem likely that Mack will be managed going forward and is perhaps a candidate to rejoin a team later in camp. Mack had just six sacks in 16 starts, but also had 35 hurries per PFF charting.

Khalil Mack (groin) was limited in Friday’s practice.
Mack should be available on Monday night. The 33-year-old veteran remains a true game-wrecker, accounting for 28 of the Chargers’ 180 quarterback pressures and 4.5 of the Chargers’ 31.5 NFL sacks. The defense will need him as they attempt to contain Lamar Jackson.

Khalil Mack (groin) was limited in Thursday’s practice.
Mack was entirely unable to practice in Week 11 before ultimately being ruled inactive on game day. The Chargers still listed him as questionable to play in the lead-up though. Mack’s limited return to practice suggests he will face the Ravens in Week 12.

Khalil Mack (groin) is questionable for Week 11 against the Bengals.
Mack “played” last week after being listed as questionable, though he was only on the field for four snaps and did not record a stat of any kind. He did not practice once leading up to Sunday and was on the same practice regimen this week. We expect him to suit up once again, though the risk of another single-digit snap count should have IDP managers looking elsewhere.

Khalil Mack (groin) did not practice Wednesday.
Mack played through the groin issue last week but was barely on the field, logging four snaps on defense with no other stats to his name. He was listed as questionable for the contest after being held out of all three practice sessions. Mack will need to get in at least a limited session before we can count on him a anything other than an emergency option. The stud EDGE has 4.5 sacks and five TFLs this year.

Khalil Mack (groin) is questionable for Week 10 against the Titans.
Mack did not practice at all this week but he is the type of established veteran who can be trusted to execute his assignments on game day without practicing. Mack is the Chargers’ most productive pass rusher this year. They may opt to preserve his health by shutting him down this week.

Khalil Mack (groin) did not practice Wednesday.
Mack leads the Chargers in both quarterback pressures (28) and NFL sacks (4.5) so this injury carries weight, heading into Week 10. Were he to miss this game, it would improve the fantasy-scoring potential of the Titans passing-game components.
