    Kevan Barlow left 49ers practice early today to undergo an MRI on his ailing knee.
    Um, that doesn’t sound good. Before his owners get in a panic, Barlow and the 49ers say he could have practiced and they are just being cautious. Barlow expects to play Sunday, but stay tuned. Or pick up Jamal Robertson in deep leagues.

    Barlow won’t practice Thursday, but is listed as probable on the team’s injury report. He’s playing. Don’t be surprised, however, if Terry Jackson and Jamal Robertson get 5-8 carries on Sunday.

    The 49ers list more injuries after each game than any team. Barlow has had shoulder problems all season, but it won’t prevent him from starting next week at Chicago.

    It sounds like Hicks will be able to play. Barlow was forced to apologize to his offensive line after saying the team should invest all their 2005 draft picks on lineman. Stick a fork in him for 2004.

    It’s possible he’s pouting because of his demotion. Maurice Hicks will start this Saturday, making Barlow irrelevent.

    “We need (Barlow) because Maurice is beat up,” coach Dennis Erickson said. Barlow could earn 5-12 touches on Saturday.
