A pleasant surprise as undrafted free agent last season, Ellerbe is expected to battle Tavares Gooden for the starting job next to Ray Lewis this year. Talavou will compete for a roster spot as a rotational lineman.

A former second-round pick, Edwards was slated to be a backup after starting 13 games in place of Trevor Pryce last season.

Talavou will compete for a roster spot in training camp.

Filani is a longshot to make the Seahawks, but his ability to play special teams should help a bit. With a lot of uncertainty at the position, any wideout landing in coach Mike Holmgren’s offense is worth monitoring.

The move makes Talavou an unrestricted free agent. Talavou missed all of 2010 with a torn ACL after notching just one tackle in three games in 2009. He’s a longshot to crack someone’s 53-man roster this summer.

Talavou was undrafted, so it doesn’t say much for him that the Ravens essentially gave the 26-year-old an “original pick” tender. Talavou would merit no compensation if another team signed him to an offer sheet. It’s a fine gamble by Baltimore after Talavou missed 2010 with a torn ACL.

Talavou, who spent time with the Seahawks a year ago, has an ACL injury.
