NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports Buccaneers special teams coordinator Keith Armstrong is retiring.
Armstrong has been the Bucs’ special teams coordinator since 2019 and has informed the team that he is retiring. He won Super Bowl LV with the team and now leaves head coach Todd Bowles with a key job to fill. The 60-year-old Armstrong has been a long-time special teams coach in the NFL and leaves with a tenured career working for the Falcons, Bears, Dolphins, and Buccaneers.
  • Buccaneers hired Keith Armstrong as their special teams coordinator.
Armstrong interviewed for the same position in Buffalo before accepting the Bucs’ offer. Bruce Arians coached Armstrong at Temple in the 1980s and the two have stayed close over the years. Armstrong was let go by the Falcons last week following an 11-year tenure as special teams coordinator. That role has since been filled by Ben Kotwica.
  • Falcons fired ST coordinator Keith Armstrong.
A head coach candidate just last season, it is a bit surprising Armstrong is being shown the door. It is possible he was just caught up in a complete staff rebuild by coach Dan Quinn. Armstrong should quickly find another job.
  • Falcons special teams coordinator Keith Armstrong will have a second interview for the Cardinals’ head-coaching vacancy.
Steelers OL coach Mike Munchak was also offered a second interview, but declined the invitation. Armstrong has over two decades of NFL experience but has never been a head coach. Patriots LBs coach Brian Flores and Panthers DC Steve Wilks have also been linked to the opening in Arizona.
